I have tried - and failed - many times trying to wear the bold JS style (heavy suit fabrics, loud stripes, clashing ties - Duchamp/Van Buck, bright suspenders, patterned pocket square, New / Lingwood Pacman socks) in Frankfurt, Zurich or Paris.
In London, it helps you to get noticed, to stand out against the grey old buildings, in the crowd.
On the continent, it draws way to much attention.

Even here in the Netherlands, we're were still respected, it is only the most dour and plain end of the spectrum that you can get away with in the corporate office. You can of course, go full out peacock suit in the Italian style, but the English version is too much a sign of dominance.
Hahaha a good point!

I am in a bit of a Turnbull and Asser-esque Peacock revival myself. Wish i could get my paws on their catalogs from the 60s and 70s. Not many wear that look but it is not a negative here in NYC. I suppose a person has to have confidence because your clothing will indeed attract attention. But I always attract attention so there's no escape for me. It's very funny that the men people notice the least live in the greatest fear of being noticed.
I can tell you that in NY a Jermyn style peacock style will draw the positive attention of the young, the sexy, the creative and those who want to know what an individual gentleman really wears. The rest can suffer in silence.
Luckly I am not in NY
