Re: The 'perfect' summer Blazer...

I had to use images of suits FNB as it's not easy to find good examples of this type of colour in a sports jacket on the interweb. iGents obviously haven't taken to wearing it. Giacomo gets a lot of stick, on here as well, but I liked that suit as well (even with the zebra print shoes). It's apparently a cotton suit made by rubinacci.

FNB .. you should have stuck with that coat, why let women tell you what's in season and so on. It makes no sense anyway, as that colour is reminiscent of the sky .. & the sky is always that colour whether its fall or summer.

One book to check if you want to find this sort of shade is H&S Dandy which is a new range they have .. there are pictures of some but not all the clothes in the range on the following website.

What do you guys think of the colour of the cloths 2nd, 9th & 14th from the end (sorry to do it this way around, but its closer from that side)? The cloth is a 13.5oz 2*2 twill weave, with an interesting 'crushed' finish, so it has good weight, with a nice soft feel to the cloth.

I like the 9th one, but I'm not really sure if the monitor is showing the color accurately.

Re: The 'perfect' summer Blazer...

It's difficult to see but those shoes could well be ..  "Belgium Shoes" used to make a Belgium loafer with animal print designs but a quick look on their site doesn't show these kinds of designs on there, they may still do them in store I don't know?

Why do you think a twill weave in a 13.5 is madness? A little heavy perhaps .. but I'm in London, if that helps explain my question, where temperature is usually between 8-15 degrees most of the year (apart from a few months in summer). I do get that those designs in a 13.5 worsted cloth is somewhat odd .. you'd expect it more in lighter cloth made for holiday and resort wear (& there are a host of options in the 9-11oz category for this from different makers).

The moonbeam is ok, but the cloth stretches a LOT .. both because of the weave and probably because of the angora in it .. its feels very light as well even though its 11oz.

On having the coat remade I say go for it .. sounds good. Just don't be the one to do the infamous thing in it.

Re: The 'perfect' summer Blazer...

Are you talking about H&S sales girl? I think she is over 60 btw ... err maybe this is your cup of tea Formby? smile

H&S make some of the best cloth out there currently without question.. the tweeds are light and I would go to harrisons P&H books for that stuff, but otherwise they have a refinement in their cloth that you cant find elsewhere, albeit at punchy prices. I like Harrisons cloths, but Moonbeam has to be the most overrated cloth out there, its so stretchy that a couple of tugs on the sleeve is going to distort it.. it will never hold a proper crease so you will have a baggy, slouchy look permanently whether you like it or not, this is ok in the right context but its never going to be a cloth you look sharp in.

Re: The 'perfect' summer Blazer...

I like it very much, its very Gatsby-esque, what I love about it, when its done right is that its somehow flamboyant and yet subtle (as its a blue I guess) all at the same time.

FNB said something quite interesting about a light blue, he said "It's an alright color, depends on the shade and material" .. looking at the jackets/suits I posted above, it occurred to me that this is a colour that if picked has to be just right, it can look very refined if its just the right tone, but can look hideously plastic-ey and cheap if the tone is off .. I think too much of a vibrant, strong baby blue is off putting, also if it veers towards turquoise or a dove grey you can hit a wrong note. Its also unforgiving, unlike with navy blue suits and jackets, you seem to be able to easily notice on those images where a suit is cut badly or not fitting well.

Btw David .. you are very brave posting images of yourself on this site .. haven't seen that pic before did you put that up before or on another forum? Also, don't let shooey see those shoes or he wont sleep well tonight smile

what do you guys think of this cloth? light blue with navy dogtooth .. get some of the benefits of the baby blue flamboyance but toned down with a darker shade.

Re: The 'perfect' summer Blazer...

No, I meant the black oxfords you are wearing with your suit, when I first saw them I assumed they were rubber soled shoes, they actually look ok to be honest. However, I think black shoes look quite formal and definitely are stark against the pastel coloured suit. I reckon a pair of brown leather and white buckskin spectators would fit perfectly, perhaps a bit too dandy, otherwise perhaps a chocolate brown would be a better choice.

The pink tie goes marvellously, it makes sense on thinking about it, as you reduce the tone of blue to that soft shade, reducing a typical red/burgundy tie which is often worn with a navy to the equivalent pink fits very nicely. I'll have to look at some pink ties now!

Black works best I think you gotta punctuate a soft colour like that. White will do it all the same but thats probably better for when you're in Monaco! Brown shoe would work with a white shirt but you really dont want pink, baby blue and brown all in the mix. Trust me... I own a colour wheel
