Apparently so:

You know, if you could buy into that world view, I think you could be quite contented with a six pack of beer watching telly. An easy way to get your kicks!
I thought that all C & W songs were about:
a. Driving a steam train.
b. A girl leaving you for someone else.
c. Harvesting the crops
(or a combination of all of the above....)

Well, it can be as simple as drinking a beer:

Or driving a truck (someone elses):

Simple themes for simple......
.......You're right Chet, it can also be about harvesting the crops, or the rain that falls on the crops:

As metaphor for getting the girls hammered on whisky because it makes them frisky! Clever, as the old farmer says at the beginning of the video, country music gigs brings out a better class of people:

I love old "golden era" country, but I'll be the first to admit that modern "country" music is a complete joke. It's horrible.
^ pretty much. There's one or two good songs at any given moment, but most just canned awfulness.
btw, the rules of country music.
WELL, A FRIEND OF MINE NAMED STEVE GOODMAN WROTE THAT SONG
AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG
I WROTE HIM BACK A LETTER AND I TOLD HIM IT WAS NOT THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG BECAUSE HE HADN’T SAID ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT MAMA,
OR TRAINS,
OR TRUCKS,
OR PRISON,
OR GETTING’ DRUNK
WELL HE SAT DOWN AND WROTE ANOTHER VERSE TO THE SONG
AND HE SENT IT TO ME,
AND AFTER READING IT,
I REALIZED THAT MY FRIEND HAD WRITTEN THE PERFECT
COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG
AND I FELT OBLIGED TO INCLUDE IT ON THIS ALBUM
THE LAST VERSE GOES LIKE THIS HERE:
WELL, I WAS DRUNK THE DAY MY MOM GOT OUT OF PRISON
AND I WENT TO PICK HER UP IN THE RAIN
BUT BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE STATION IN MY PICKUP TRUCK
SHE GOT RUN NED OVER BY A DAMNED OLD TRAIN
The writer was distinguishing between his Top 10 country albums and the top country pop hits. Good country is plentiful. I'd suggest his ten albums are mostly good. And Terry Allen has new album out.
Good man.
^
Important distinction. I was just talking about what people call popular "country" music, that in reality is just bad pop songs with some banjo or vocal "twang" thrown in to make it "country". I'm really not familiar with the alt-country and Americana stuff that's being produced today.

alt-country and Americana stuff is a very powerful and heady mix
^^I dare anyone to listen to the above and not be moved.

Zydeco? Ha!
Zydeco is fantastic. Terrance Simien is one of my favs.
Zydeco....
WhenI was doing my residency in New Orleans, I went to the Jazz Festival and it was great. until I heard Zydeco. I heard it first from afar but my body turned And beelined towards the music before I was even aware of what I was doing.
It had accordions, electric guitars, a killer beat, French lyrics sung by black men... I blew away all my preconceived notions about what was pop, rock, jazz, country, etc. needless to say, everything else paled after that.
Like salsa music, all the high notes make it unpleasant to hear on home sound systems. But loud, in your face, where the vibrations hit your chest, it WILL make you stand up and dance.
^
I'm not writing it off. I've just never heard zydeco that drew me in in the least. I'm open minded. Y'all may just need to turn me on. I used to go to the Taco Bell on lunch breaks, and it was right next door to a Popeye's Chicken that blasted really cheesy and base New Orleans jazz and cajun / zydeco from the outside speakers. It made my teeth grind.
Check this.

And as Chevere mentioned, it's really a live medium.
