Personally I find plenty of humor in the exploitation of stereotypes of all kinds, whether racial, gender oriented, religious, cultural, etc. Do I believe and adhere to notions that certain groups of people are superior to another based on race or any other number of ascribed or achieved attributes? No. Of course not. But I also argue there is not a single person in the world that is naturally without personal prejudice. "Pre judging" situations and people allows us to navigate though life more efficiently. But you must be critical of your own prejudices and allow them to be challenged, otherwise you become an unmovable ignorant bigot. Also, I think it's helpful to distinguish between prejudiced notions or racist thought, and then the actual action or behavior of discrimination based on those beliefs.
As for the jokes, of course most intelligent and compassionate people can tell when a line has been crossed. Not to mention, while one person of a group may find immense humor in a joke at their own group's expense, another person of that group may experience severe offense. But I'm wary of political correctness too. I think it can be counterproductive on many levels. This is all I really want to say on the matter, because as I've said before, I'm just here for the clothes ... and music ... and my clothes bros.
The reason this is a difficult area is because it is not a clear cut case. Ive engaged in many arguements and have been called racist, that is because some people have been brainwashed into thinking that if your critical of something you are prejudice or racist. I am indeed neither I believe in invidual freedoms which sometime can mean people wanting to not have their own personal freedoms. Like so often with religion. The fact is I know I can engage in this debate and not be racist. Because I believe in all inviduals being treated equally and fairly. This maybe an ideal but it gives weight to arguing agaisnt something you feel is very destructive without people trying to whitewash what you are saying. Like hepcat thinks im probably doing to him. Im not, im just asking him to refrain from being racist. If hes not racist. This should be quite an easy task.
This thread has gotten way too serious. I came here for the lulz.
Mel Brooks probably dealt with this all in a much more entertaing way
I gave up on debating race, religion, or politics with people. It's never gone anywhere, ever. Like you, Bop, I believe people should exercise individual freedom and that they should be treated equally and fairly, and I judge the individual character and overcome prejudice. But I also sometimes choose to be downright politically incorrect for sheer comedic and shock value. Of course I have to choose my audience carefully and I've no doubt offended people over the years, maybe on the forum even (sorry). But anyone that really knows me knows that I don't have a hateful or bigoted bone in my body. I'm a lover baby. I love animals too.
Are you racist doghouse? If so, I'll be removing that. If not, lulz..
Oh sorry I see, your cat's called Poontang....I get it, I'm with you now
I know what you want me to say, and I'm not going to say it, even in the NSFW section. I respect women.
Racism is a bit like sex, there's lots of it about but I don't seem to be getting any of it.
No wait that's not right.
