exactly. how many serious men in the real world want to waste time messing about like us on a clothing forum & worse descend to the even lower depths of creating a 'clothing blog'? by definition the guys who go to the trouble are going to be sad, unsociable, losers with a Walter Mitty persona which usually takes the form of wanting to play a member of the landed English gentry circa 1937.

I think what we need to break this increasingly downward spiral of negativity is perhaps a long discussion looking at the philosophy and psychology which goes behind our sartorial choices. I've been thinking about some of the things I admire, which is very similar to what most clothes hobbyists admire as well, some realise it and some don't, its drawing on the aesthetics of English aristocratic dress from at least 40 years back. Watching the new tv drama on Lord Lucan with a full costume budget, along with perusing Roubi's work at creating a new RTW range for Huntsman (which isn't wholly inspired by this same meme) made me think more deeply about this. It also made me wonder why I am aping English aristocracy in my dress when I don't come from such a background myself, don't share many similar lifestyle pursuits (thinking about country estate type clothing for hunting etc) .. so am I doing it because I admire the aesthetic, or because I associate this strata of society as 'high value' which I want to ride on the back of. I've ridiculed this practise myself but am guilty of it personally, albeit in a diluted form, ie I don't wear full tweed suits with a trilby, gloves, formal overcoat with double monks (you know the type from our ridicule on other threads) like some of our hardended fora friends but the framework for dressing is the same, I just miss out some of the accoutrements.

If I'm not mistaken Cromps has recently re-jigged his website so that readers can no longer post their comments.
I see that, recently, Crompie has taken to dining with his tailors! In my day, you might have bought him a quick pint for a job especially well done - but dinner? I think not. Crompie (who doesn't attend fashion shows) is off to Pitti soon and that will guarantee some more side-busting shots of him on top of an Italian ice cream, sidling up to Luca. Crompie has shifted in my mind, from being an irritating, smug bore, to being really quite an entertainment.
Heck, l thought l have been posting in `inane post of the day thread'.

I don't think there's anything wrong with mixing with people of all backgrounds tbh, I'm interested to engage with and learn from people from all different walks of life, 'important' people are not necessarily more interesting to spend time with, in fact, if they are workaholics & very career driven (there is a strong relationship I would suggest between importance & amount of work people do in most fields) they may well turn out to be very boring and drone on endlessly about their jobs. I had a girlfriend I dated for a short while who did something 'important' (creating legislation etc) in an EU agency and she'd only talk about this .. very boring woman indeed.
tailors can be interesting, especially if they share gossip picked up in their fitting rooms with clients. people are prone to tell their tailor all sorts of intimate things about their lives .. no idea why. Perhaps the fact you let a tailor see you undressed makes you feel comfortable telling them personal details about yourself too? Isnt that movie The Tailor of Panama based on this idea .. if anyones got a link to this, put it up, must be some amusing tailoring scenes in there even if you do have to put up with pierce brosnan.
On compey going to these types of events, bear in mind he writes for the Rake who was the host of that dinner event @ claridges so makes sense for him to turn up as an employee / contributor surely. We have to give him a pass on this one. Also, note the food at Claridge's is excellent, if I got an invite to have some free grub there I would turn up too! If anyone on here is in London, I highly recommend their Japanese breakfast. Makes going into work later a little more palatable.

I think Shoeey was being a little facetious.
