Most brutal heat wave in Oz for 100 years.

For the entire week the heat has been absolutely brutal. It's been up around 111 degrees or more everyday thoughout the week. You don't dare go outside if you can avoid it. Even in the middle of the night it is about 95 degrees. Some places in the state are up around 115 degrees.

I am doing well with the heat because l drink lots of water and eat raw, but many people aren't doing so well. I'm sick of the heat and want it to end, enough is enough. Said to be the final day of extreme heat for a while.

Re: Most brutal heat wave in Oz for 100 years.

I've only experienced real extreme heat once, over a Christmas and New Year spent in Caxias, a less than saluburious suburb of Rio where it was a constant 45-47 degrees C (113 - 116 F). There was no air conditioning, only fans that jostled the mosquitos around before dive bombing my ankles and head, which left me in a state of moribund sickness.

A sobering experience, quite literally, as the family I was staying with were puritanical god fearing folk, who viewed the drink as the devil's own brew. It did cure me of love though, which was quite a good thing as it turned out.

The heat would be hard on blokes from your neck of the woods. Blokes in Oz are more accustomed to hotter days during summer.

I know a lady who refuses to open her windows or use an air conditioner because she loves the hot sauna like days. Sweating and being hot is her type of thing. *shrugs*

In the mines in the outback near Marble Bar (one of the hottest places on Earth) it unoffically is said to get in the 130's F (50's C) during summer.

Been watching this on the news, looks like a real bitch Shooey. We didn't have anything particular of note this year, but it's been bringing memories up of the summer we had about 7 9or maybe 8?) years ago, had a week of about 105-115 straight. Brutal, especially with the humidity we have here.

Finally been out in the garden - a few plants have carked it, others have burnt leaves, snails have eaten all the lettuce and bloody possums attacked my newly planted climbing roses.

How did your shoots survive shooey?

Mate thats no good - 'cos you have a lot of them don't you.

Do you have a constant mist and shade on them on hot days?

I suppose its to be expected though.

sorry to see that. As I said a few of my plants carked it too.

To cheer you up - pop over to SF where DW111 or whoever is getting grumpy telling people that gemming failure is real and high end shoe companies are short changing people on GYW shoes with gemming. Theres also a video there that might interest you on Blake stitching with closed channel.

I am so sick of this hot  weather, it is giving me the royal shits. This is the hottest heat wave l have ever known...hot days and hot nights for almost 3 weeks on end. Enough is enough. Last night was bloody brutal mate. I haven't had many greens in a months because it is too hot to grow them, and l miss them like crazy. Can't wait for the cool change. Feb is always hot so l am sure we will get more of this garbage weather.

I'm in short sleeved Hawaiian rayon shirt, old pink cotton chinos, barefeet. All windows open, ducted fans on, all outside doors open to catch breezes, house is down to about 25C with cool breezes blowing through.

So much for avoiding cooked food - even the little sprouts will be sizzling in their water beds. The great thing about the climate of coastal Rio de Janeiro is that we have these blissful ocean breezes wink

I was about to go outside and do the super powerful `sungazing' of the ancient masters to increase my electromagnetic voltage, however the skies are hazy with smoke from all the bush fires and the sun is blocked out. Bugger.

Feel sorry for the poor buggers who have lost their houses.

I honestly don't know how you cope with snow and all that rot. How do you keep warm and safe? Don't cars slip off the roads? It boggles my mind how people deal with it. I've hardly ever seen snow in my life.
