He was off the junk for more than half a decade before his experiments with modalism and Kind of Blue. The Birth of Cool was not modal. Which I think the journo is trying to make out.
I've tried watching that Foyle's War a couple of times, everything seems set for a good series, the right era with great potential of historic driven plots and yet, I find it oh, so boring.

He is a social climber and gets togged out in full country clobber in the episode where they have to reposess a bull. These clothes get covered in shite during the course of the programme.
