Some recent places:
Went to Basta Pasta tonight, 37 West 17th. Great place with a unique Italian menu-many items Asian inspired. Girl had cauliflower and scallop soup and sea urchin linguine. I had linguine with prosciutto served out of a big Parmesan wheel. Terrific food. Table side service for the soup and my pasta. Great date place.
Tiny's in TriBeca would be a great first date place. Lot of small plates and a good atmosphere.
Next up is The Modern at MOMA. More of an established relationship place, but that's where I am at now. Girl is going back home to China next week and we talked about going this weekend, but will probably save it when she returns. That and the Carlyle for tea.

When I was in New York back in 1998, I came across a fine chain of breakfast diners, the Brooklyn Diner it was called. It was near the Essex hotel I was staying in, and had the famous photo by Weegee of Coney Island beach taken just before the war, blown-up on the walls. The service was great and every morning we went back there.
Have any of you New Yorkers eaten here?
I haven't. Looks like a good breakfast option. I do like a traditional diner for that. The locations though make it unlikely I will often get there. I'm either at a diner in my area in Brooklyn, or in the girl's hood on the UES. Might be a place to go if we hit the MOMA early one day.
Well, as you know Geoff, we don't do breakfast restaurants/diners in Europe. We did have Little Chef in the UK, but that was not up to US standards. But if you do go to the Brooklyn Diner, please post a verdict, I have very fond memory of that place.
Will do. I have a few interviews next week not too far from there. Perhaps I'll have the opportunity to try it out.
