Staying with a guy who is in his 60's I think & talks just like Get Smart. Lots of black, darted, European shouldered, mainly 3 btn suits & 3 btn black suits with a "shadow" stripe, if that is the term (centre vent, side vent, ventless, in order of popularity), with white plain point shirts on ordinary French businessmen. 3 on the cuff usually. The darts don't shape the coat too much on the whole. No wasp-waisted English styles are truly popular. Mainly worn with sober ties and large 'silver' status conscious watches. Shoes are black and have a longer toe on the whole. Double reverse pleat Trou. are common with a very long break. Fantastic American real Trad dressers and Japanese real Trad dressers too in the cafes. I have been away from all this for far too long. Cigarette and alchohol consumption still everywhere. Both are still guilt-free, enjoyed and celebrated. Women still with legs and lips. Also still enjoyed and celebrated. The 3 btn suits are buttoned to taste: All, just the middle, just the top. There is no rule. Male grooming remains pinpoint acurate. Everybody still checks out everybody else's ass. And everybody likes this just fine.
Jack.
Nice post about a lovely place. I was in Paris a couple of months back and enjoyed it a lot.
The word 'panache' kept coming to mind when watching the people in restaurants. Relaxed but smart, cool without being uptight.
Notice how older people still dress properly by and large, not resorting to the 'trainer and tracksuit bottoms' look that seems to be creeping in over here and only serves to infantilise.
Women with legs and lips? Yes indeed. I was with the wife but, well, you do notice.
Jack ol Sport,
Whilst on holiday, perchance you could educate the French on LeCurriculum?
On second thought, Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite and Ivy for Everyone! Vive le trad.
Cheers,
Trip
