You Say Tomahto and i sat Tomato

Its an interesting thing the differences in the English and American English Dialects.
My good friend Worried Man talked earlier about being pissed meaning half cut drunk.
I have always thought my friends across the Atlantic meant they were angry when pissed?

It can be confusing cant it? However there are Americans who sound like they come from the English west country
Natives of the Islands of North Carolina and Virginia respectively.Clearly the Pilgrim Fathers and early settlers sounded like a bunch of Carrot crunchers ooh arrh ! apologies to anyone from the English west country.

The meaning of pissed is exactly the same in the Uk as Oz.
Although Aussie accents have a lot more in common with my London accent
than many other accents in England.

I just used "pissed" to mean drunk because of whom I was communicating with.  I know you all mean drunk.  But if I was really angry at my American friend I would tell him I was "fucking pissed" as in pissed off = angry.  Now I'll piss off.

Re: You Say Tomahto and i sat Tomato

Thanks to Formby and WM, my one and only chance to prove to the forum
that i can hold a decent debate and am not (commonly held belief) a complete moron
spolied and goes down the toilet with a bucket load of Piss.

I meant to add for Jeff that another interesting piece of information
is that a modern English West country accent is rhotic which adds to my case that
early settlers of those there united states spoke like English farmers.

Its such a shame really, i was really enjoying this thread and the fascinating
debate with Jeff on the linguistic and regional origins of American English.
That was until you piss and fuck obsessed barbarians muscled in.
