Bespoke tailors in NYC

Hello:

I am interested in a bespoke suit in NYC and have been referred to Leonard Logsdail. I have seen a few praiseworthy articles on him and his prices are not unreasonably high.

My co-worker did a search and provided me with the following list of NY tailors:

Saint Laurie
Maurizio
Michael Andrews Bespoke
Nino Corvato
La Rukico
Giorgenti

What are your thoughts on these tailors and how would you rate them with Logsdail?

My price range limit would be 5,000.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would add Raphael to that list. Well within your price-list.

Don't know a thing about Logsdail's silhouette, but if you're interested in  slim-fitting "English" silhouette, Raphael can accomodate you. A talented tailor and a nice chap to boot.

I would say Corvato is at least slightly superior to Logsdail but they make very different looking suits. Corvato makes a Natural shouldered suit in the Ivy League sense of the word but with Italian and even Neapolitan precision and Logsdail looks to make a more typically English style with shoulder pads and waist suppression. Corvato likes Logsdail and his suits, if that means anything to you.

Corvato isnt really taking new customers and on the odd weak moment the prospective customer has to wait at least a year.

LaRukico and Saint Laurie are garbage, eliminate them immediately.

The only other one on your list I recognize is Nino Corvato.  My suggestion to you is to first find what silhouette you are looking for (Roman, Naples, British, American etc), possibly by seeing and trying on OTR examples.  Not everyone looks equally well in the different suit silhouettes. Once you've established what styly you like and flatters your physique, then go on a search for which bespoke tailor offers that style. No one tailor can do everything, no matter what they tell you.  Spending $5,000 on a suit, I would also ask to see examples or get references from said tailor. I am sure some of the "celebrity" tailors would poo poo that suggestion, I would take my 5K elsewhere.  Remember that it is your suit, your money and it should be your decisions. I've seen some bespoke horrors come out of supposed master tailors simply because the client let the tailor decide everything.  Also remember that bespoke is not a magic bullet, if you have a "weird" body, the suit will not change that, you will simply be a well dressed "weird" body.

What about this Frank Shattuck tailor that Manton is so keen on?
