Fabric Suggestions for California Climate MTM Trouser Fabric

Like these pants on offer at Ben Silver.

Cotton Trousers>Cotton Trousers Plain Front

They'll won't fit me in particular as I require a higher-waisted model. For me to pick up by the yard and have a tailor make up into trousers (MTM): Can a member identify the type of cotton used (twill, drill, etc.)? Perhaps even the Italian mill? Alternatively, can a member suggest a comparable (or better?) fabric/mill and/or a by-the-yard source, please? Particularly interested in the Ben Silver colors: Nantucket Red, Salmon, Seafoam, Orange.
I also like more Ambrosi-type trousers, i.e. button fronts, etc. Why don't I just have Ambrosi make them? Probably will. Don't necessary wish to pay his prices just yet. Emphasis here is on quality of fabric (superior). Look forward to all comments, suggestions, etc. I'm a long-time follower (5 years), but 1st time poster. I respect member's opinions as they are some of the most knowledgeable with regards to clothing, fashion based on those years as a follower. Thanks.

Shouldn't the tailor have some books or something?

I would give Ben Silver a ring, I'd bet they'd turn you onto something.

Unless you have fairly deep pockets, isn't getting MTM (or bespoke) trousers in such frivolous, "fun" colors kind of extravagant? Even here in California they are likely to be of very finite utility. They seem to be "resort wear" and little else besides.

Re: Fabric Suggestions for California Climate MTM Trouser Fabric

Thanks all. As stated: I live in s. California (Marina del Rey). I'm in the finance end of the movie business, so think Wall St. instead of Hollywood. Casually, I favor what is called over at Suitable Wardrobe the "California tuxedo," i.e. lightweight blazer, chambray shirt, chinos, and Sloops (or in my version Gucci loafers). Enzo Caruso in Santa Monica makes my blazers, Freddy Vandecasteele in the Valley my shirts. I'm looking for 2nd, 3rd, etc. trousers in addition to khaki colored chinos to complement the look. Any suggestions along those lines would be very appreciated as I know not about menswear as movie finance, and certainly not as much as the members here. I like bespoke, especially pants because most RTW ride on the hip I find. Us older guys (I'm 64), require ones that ride on the natural waist. I think at any age the former look better than the latter, too. I also prefer a button front closure and adjustable side tabs. Its just me. I sent Ben Silver an email on Tues., 2/18, but have yet to hear from them in response.

Finding good cotton in summer weights and colors is not that difficult, most of the major merchants have it.
You can check out Harrisons Mersolair http://www.harrisonsofedinburgh.com/collections.html?cs=h
Also Holland & Sherry (http://www.hollandandsherry.com/apparel/collections.aspx?season=SS2011&details=HS1127) , Scabal, Loro Piana, Drapers, all have good cotton that I'm sure you can find in the colors and wieghts you are looking for.

Scabal has a book out called Capri which has every color under the sun in it, but they are wool not cotton. Still probably worth a look.

Re: Fabric Suggestions for California Climate MTM Trouser Fabric

Again, thanks. All. Excellent suggestions. Holland and Sherry cottons look very good. David: I actually saw your blog early this AM PT while researching this using the Film Noir Buff search engine. Very nice things. Especially like the bespoke double-breasted grey flannel suit on it. While double-breasted won't work for me as I'm a bit on the "athletic" side, grey flannel is - to me - essential. Will probably be dropping into to see you on an extended visit to NYC (I'm from NYC. Grew up in Woodbridge, NJ. My maternal grandmother (1880-1985) emigrated from Italy at a very young age to E. 111th St. between 2nd and 3rd. Had relatives visited weekly in places like Stuyvesant Town, Parkchester, and Sunnyside, Queens. Lived myself on either Perry or Charles Sts. in the Village from c. 1976-1996 when we relocated) when your weather improves. Hey! Its almost 70 at 10:30 AM PT today. And that's in the Marina! Had to run the car A/C by the time we got into Beverly Hills on our way to W. Hollywood yesterday.
