A Bit Trad?

Engineered Garments's most recent collection has some items that might be construed as a tiny bit Trad. That sort of worn-in look that certain adherents of the Trad want but can only aspire to. Indeed, I believe the brand has a Japanese backing and we know how the Japanese love to interpret classic American style.

The duffle coats seem nice.

I haven't looked at those but I think I saw the ad in the Times today for BB Black Fleece suits. who was that designer? I mean, the clothes didn't fit. The jackets were way short. 3000 dollars for suits that don't fit?  Are these people nuts?

Objection. The answer is not responsive to the question about sanity.

Re: A Bit Trad?

I think the charcoal nubby wool suit in the most recent collection might bridge the gap between all out Thom Browne shortness/tightness and J Press devotion.  It looks like a compromise between the two.  I wonder what the Trads would think of this:

It will be interesting to see Get Smart redone. If they do the clothes right, assuming theyre doing it set in the 60s, itll link in with Thom Brown. I saw Thom Browne and this look of his works for him, but probably only him.

They had the original series on TV Land a few years ago and I noticed how well done the wardrobe was, in that 1960s Big Biz ivy league sort of way.

Re: A Bit Trad?

Interesting you mention that.  I remember in Shot in the Dark (Pink Panther), Peter Sellers wears a 3 button suit that seems shorter than usual for the mid 1960s.  It looked awesome from my perspective but i suspect that the wardrobe people did it for slight comic effect.  not an outright joke, but just a means to make Clousseau appear a bit off.

You saw Thom Browne in person?  I think that might be cool, to size him up so to speak.  I watch The Green Hornet early Saturday mornings on Retroplex for the same reason.  Britt Reed (the lead hero) is biz Ivy all the way (when he isnt in the green hornet suit that is).

Maybe the remake of Get Smart could feature clothes by Thick as Thieves.
