Terminology question about a pocket
Just for future reference...
On the "new" Langrock navy flannel suit I picked up, mentioned on another thread, the jacket has a curious number of pockets.
Well, actually, it's a 3 piece...the vest has 2 pockets each side, which is more than I've usually seen...accustomed to 1 per side.
The jacket itself has the usual breast pocket on each side.
Then there is another pocket, on the left inside of the jacket down low, roughly right in back of the left outside pocket.
What is this pocket called?
What, in days of yore, was its intended function....?
I've never seen so many pockets on one suit.

A billfold pocket is typically under the left inner breast pocket - about the level of the rib cage.
Am I understanding correctly that this inside pocket is almost on your left cheek?
Or do you mean opposite and interior to the left outside pocket opening/flap?
If the latter, it seems like a possible security pocket for your PDA or cell phone (which is what I use my billfold pocket for).

Recently acquired CCC Poplin has this pocket, Coolidge. I just assumed it was a relatively new invention for one's mobile phone. Does your suit pre-date cell phones?

Oxxford, Brioni, PRL (and I think Paul Stuart Samuelsohn) have had this pocket for over 35 years, excepting some DB. Is it not the case with most better RTW?
It's a calling card wallet pocket, originally. Probably more often used for cigs, perhaps tickets.
(Langrock at one time in the '20s had a chain of about three dozen stores catering to NE prep and Ivy types. Did Langrock survive the late '60s or '70s?)

Some years ago I asked my tailor what this pocket was called. He said it was a "ticket pocket in the lining".
Back with a vengeance.
