I've had at least three different friends tell me, independently of one another, that I would look great in Diesel jeans, but every time I pass by the Diesel shop in Roppongi Hills and see the horrors on display, I become increasingly convinced that these friends either have no taste even in their mouths or are completely oblivious to my stylistic proclivities.
Thanks to Get Smart's informed posts and the article Horace posted, I've learned more about jeans on this thread than I ever thought I wanted to know. The fact is, I was biased against jeans during my upbringing, when they were invariably called "dungarees" and only considered appropriate for cleaning the horse stables. It's not that I've never worn jeans, but I've never found them comfortable.
Little did I suspect that I was living in a jeans Mecca. Perhaps that's an indication of how far off my radar jeans are. The fact is, though, that jeans play well to the opposite sex, and like it or not, they form a mainstay of the modern casual repertiore. Of course, they have also become so culturally coded that just getting a pair for a few bucks from the local store could be seen by some as being as eggregious as wearing a powder-blue rental tux.
Ginza Tailor offers bespoke jeans trimmed with their silk brocade fabrics for $600-$800. Knowing Ginza Tailor, the denim is probably among the best available. I've been thinking of looking into these, but so far my curiosity has been preempted by suits and shirts. I'm sure half of you will encourage me to take the plunge, while the other half will try to pull me back from the brink of madness, telling me, "Don't do it. You have so much to live for!"
Jason has a more informed knowledge on jeans than I do, but having checked the Liberto website I think their stuff looks and no doubt will be legit ( didn't expect anything else too from mr Simons reallly )

Edwin definitely is a decent brand as you can check for yourself here : http://www.oipolloi.com/brands/Edwin-70.html
I hope this helps....
Brother Jack, I don't know much about Liberto jeans, but Edwin is definitely a good brand. They have a Japanese and a Euro line that are both good, tho as usual with denim, the Japanese line is considered better. The typical Edwin cut is very much like a Levis 501 style with a higher rise and more relaxed leg.
Horace, Levis STF generally size down 2" at the waist and 2-4" in length.
This might get me laughed off the board, but I think that Brooks Brothers' jeans are just about perfect--nice dark hue, slim straight cut, comfortably soft. They're around 90 bucks, I think.
Their cord jeans are also very good.
This might get me laughed off the board faster than Brownshoe but my favorite jean-style pants in the world are levis 519, vintage, with the white pocket tag. I have a pair of black, tan, 2 pairs of grey and a pair of navy. They're skinny but not too tapered, look great with brogues and can be worn easily with jackets and neckties.
Thanks to G.S. & Alex R. for helping me in my jeans education.
Don't the Japanese also have some of the original Levis looms?
I imagine there's some sort of inherent superiority in that line of thought.
Are these Jordache or Sergio Valente?
