Mrs. Astor and the world of dreams

She died today. She could write an elegant English sentence which she did for most of her life. She was not born to money. she did marry well. she wrote a couple of books. Every marriage was unhappy particularly her last. Mr. Astor died as she was about to leave him. A great lady with great style. her father was an Army officer.
I know some of that world from my own little connections in New England. People are just as unhappy as you and have way more things to fight about. Sad story about people with too much money in the end. But that lady knew what to do with it. Unlike, well unlike. It's going to be an ugly story unfolding in the next few years. But if you know some of these stories, many of them are ugly, hate filled arguments about the money. Just in case you aspire to the lifestyle, you may not want to have children.

I know that Paris Hilton will now carry the philanthropy torch left by Mrs. Astor.

I notice that Leona is gone now, too.
Not in the same league as Mrs Astor, but a NYC icon of sorts.
