I think l will email George about all my concerns with the shoe regarding the adjustments of the `last' affecting the balance of the pattern and symmetry of the alligator scales. + l will mention the wonky welt.

Re: George Cleverely bespoke trunk show 2013 (MELBOURNE/AUSTRALIA)

hold on guys a few things:

1) the color is fantastic -simply perfect
2) Yes the last is made to a specific heel height you can vary by + or - maybe 2 mm but not more.
3) the welt to upper stitching is not wonky-at first I thought so too, but what you are seeing is the top of the welt that is already dyed and the contrasting sides (welt trimmed after being sewn after , welt was dyed before assembly) The welt will not be flat prior to outsole attachement -that is all you are seeing =the welt is not laying flat. look very closely at the upper to welt junction =the darkest part=the contour is straight and clean. The underside shot also shows clean straight stitching
4)yes they certainly meant this to be a final token fitting. Relasting this very expensive upper is going to be a bitch, since there is no lasting margin left and the toe stiffeners might be well adhered depending on what adhesive they used. This pair might end in the red for them.
5)Most shoes nowadays are too long I find. I agree with your assessment to shorten.
6)The last maker and person who measures you should have a long standing relationship together in order to get a last right. This is crucial or else the the person who measure should also be the last maker. You will notice that many of the top makers will measure, make last and make pattern. The rest is much safer to outsource
