You could swap out Bill Hicks for George Carlin.
That's a trifle unfair. Hicks undertook a rather self-destructive journey to reach that particular place in comedy. Bear in mind also that to effectively spread his message he aligned with the then current zeitgeist of unbridled rage. It is highly likely that the vehicle of his thought process would be significantly different in the early 21st century.
At the very least he was right on the money when it came to the advertising industry.
I can list many modern 'comics' who are far more deserving of criticism. In fact virtually every single comedian with a show on T.V right now is a desperately unfunny clot.
Form by, I've never heard anything from Bill Hicks that ever suggested he could be actually, yknow, funny. George Carlin is a very funny man.
