I have three or four pairs...let's see:
cordovan body/black saddle, solid leather, Johnston & Murphy
cream body/medium brown saddle, suede, Hush Puppies
"English tan" body and saddle, solid leather, Polo
dark cordovan body and saddle, solid leather, Florsheim (vintage)
I think they all look great. I'm not a shoo maven, so I can't speak to quality of construction, but I've worn them all a lot and they're holding up fine.
They work very well with jeans, cords, and tweeds, which are what I wear all the time. The Hush Puppies are very nice, soft as glove leather with lovely broguing (is that what I mean?) on the saddle trim. Probably the best looking pair in the bunch.
I aim to get the classic suede medium brown body/solid leather dark brown saddle at some point. Don't know why I didn't get that one first, it's a pretty perfect shoe. I think Bass makes a good one.
Obviously there are more upscale options, but the above are at the price I can afford, and I have no complaints.
