Was to have appeared in the magazine <<Classic Style>>. The questions, the author writes, were fed to him by the editor. Looks like the magazine didn't care for his answers, but I thought he "Dear Aunt Agatha" column-like responses were brilliant.

I enjoyed that - Thanks.
It's a great area for debate: Classic style doesn't mean antique style.
I think I'm most comfortable with 'Classic Style' as a term for all this stuff. When you call a style 'Traditional' you get nothing but trouble from people trying to add their own extra baggage onto things...
'Retro style' is a grey area for me - I see it as being knowingly and almost ironically 'antique', rather than being 'classic' in your dress, but if other people don't know what you're doing you can easily look an ass surely? A tricky one to pull off.
Any thoughts?

I find Chens, like many column writers, conflates his personal biases with clean reporting & analysis. Some of the comments by readers, such as "know your audience", he should read.
