Sinatra Has A Cold

Widely considered the best profile ever of Frank Sinatra, written by Gay Talese, many say it also was the start of a new genre of journalism called New Journalism, an approach also adopted by Norman Mailer and Tom Wolfe.  Ever the Dandy, Sinatra establishes a strict dress code, as well, for those attending his shows...

I do love that bit about the coat and hat.

If only establishments today upheld some sort of rule like that, the world would be a better place.

Re: Sinatra Has A Cold

What should be understood about the Sinatra article, and its real significance to journalism: he never interviewed Sinatra, nor met him -- the article was written entirely from other accounts, descriptions, and stories about Sinatra. The triumph is that Talese was able to write an article which implies great initimacy and immediacy, soley from secondary sources.
