Very interesting with the distancing of vanity as in being well groomed but not well dressed.
Im obsessive with dress even if to others it looks like rags. But as for grooming my hair is a mess my nails are black and I only use shower gel and shampoo.
I think you can obsess on clothes without being vain.
I want to achieve a balance in my clothing like I do my artwork. It is the driving force for me
I just try to look "neat" and not smell bad.
It's not a conscious thing really some days I look and they're clean other days they're not. They seem to do their own thing
I hope you don't also bite your nails.
As long as he doesn't eat his boogers. I've caught two people in adjacent cars doing this lately. Both grown men!! I just kept staring at them, burning holes in their booger eating heads with my disapproving eyes.

I think the whole premise of the discussion is wrong and flawed: the tired old cliche and poppycock that men traditionally did not care about their appearance much and in the last 10-15 years, men have become more feminine in the respect they now care about their looks more.
Didn't we have this discussion back in the 80s?
