Notice how much saner it's getting over there?
Mr. Harris has a really level-headed post on Ding-Dong Bell-Drier's 'Defining Trad' thread (not sure about his praise of "The Squire", however).
There are still some funny photos, but I do detect a genuine growing interest in the style for its own sake. The need to 'play the Brahmin' has subsided a little bit for now maybe (?).
Some of the worst offenders are the few Anglo posters on the forum now who confuse general traditionalism with talking about Classic American tailoring. Good to see the forum is not buying into their POV.
Just let the forum be about the clothes. Save your other views for other forums, lads.
And let there be light!

... I think the old trouble with the forum was purely because it was called "Trad" & people so enthusiastically latched on to the whole idea of traditionalism...
An outsider's view of the style. IMVHO.
The style was & is a day to day style for some. Part of the ordinary continuum of life. Viewing it as something so linked to the past never made much sense to many of us who couldn't see why it was suddenly a 'retro' and 'vanishing' style.
Horseshit, we thought.
We knew where to buy the stuff.
Yes, it wasn't a widespread style any more, but vanishing and linked to the past?
- Not if you knew what you were talking about it wasn't.
Much stupid posting followed on AAAC and then Andy's Trad forum... But now all of a sudden people's taste for games playing has ended and those who are really interested in the clothes and not some fantasy 'way of life' are keeping the rest of the forum grounded in reality.
A big improvement.
Funny... I quite like reading it these days...

Oh good, is Harry making a come back? That place might become worth reading again.
I'm advised that my post above is unclear. I'll try again:
I share Horace's suspicions of trollery on the Trad forum, but I don't think it is a great troll as it has gone on for far too long.
Even the cleverest joke becomes dumb when it goes on too long. No?
I think the poster in question knows this & that is why his posts are now more sensible.
The troll has still held back & limited discussion of Classic American style on the MBs, so maybe he's happy with that result & doesn't feel the need to make the style look any more ridiculous on the forums than his followers have already made it look. Maybe he feels his work is done?
Hopefully all concerned now think it's time to move on.
Just like I do.

(Odd if the guy likes the style that he's made it look so stupid... What a world!)

It will be fun to see what his influence now is.
Will they all bend over or will some stand firm?
Whatever, the silly Squire will be on his knees waiting for every post...
Back in the day I told him about AAAC. I knew him as a man obsessed. I don't want to be known as Dr. Frankenstein but I did always want to star in a Mel Brooks movie (or musical).
I really do see Tom as the king of all this.
From his usage the young Harry hears the word Trad.
From his posts Harry learns of a world and a way of life.
From his information Harry discovers AAAC.
Why was he never in the SFRP?
He needed AAAC to be the BMOC. Too much competition from the real McCoys at GoPreppy. He needed virgin territory to set up his kingdom.
Good to see him back posting. Always of interest. Often very informative. Why he needed to dilute his Internet appearances with the fable of The Curriculum and The World According To Harris is his affair. I'm just happy he's toned it down now.
I guess he's just older.
Here's to him. I hope he's still posting when he's 40. Same with Bell-Drier. We forget sometimes how young our internet experts are...

I'm not sure I could play the role of Falstaff, but so be it. I do wonder about what foreign shores young Harry will land on. we had our contretemps. but he is a smart kid.
I have had a falling out with all those others from gopreppy. truth to tell most of them had bailed long ago. Sally is a bright girl. I hope she is well.
Oh he owes Tom alright ... & quite a few others, eh?
