Your Thoughts On This J.Simons Shoe?

I'll bite.

Jeans (Denim, Cord, Canvas, Twill), Cords, Khakis, Twills - perfect!

These Steve McQueen-esque 'Playboy' style chukkas look best with properly fitting trou., however (not that I think you wear anything else, Mr. G.). Baggy, flappy 'Andy Trad' pants would throw the look off, IMVHO.

A nice distinctive shoe.

I could learn to like it.  The sole's a bit thick for my taste though.

It's not the sole so much. The rubber/crepe (or whatever it is) comes up the sides of the shoe to give the effect of 'bumpers'.
They look a lot less Herman Munster in the flesh.

A matter of taste I guess. The Playboy style is a unique style unlike any other Chukka or Desert boot. Quite a rare style too - a bit of a '50's/'60's retro vibe about it. They do shoes as well as boots.

I own a pair of Sanders Hi-Tops, I think they are a nice casual shoe that work well with slim-cut jeans, cords or khakis. I wear them like desert boots, as an alternative to my C&J and Alfred Sargent chukkas.

Here's a link, the rest of the site is worth a look too.
