Interesting that Gieves and Hawks had to alter the jacket so that it was no longer that of a Privy Councillor (lizards to a man that lot). Dress uniform is regulated by the Lord Chamberlain's office (probably another lizard) and guidance is contained in a book called Dress at Court which can be viewed online.

There was a provincial Chief Constable some years ago who was tipped as a future Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police. But sadly for him it never happened (probably not a lizard), so having been passed over for the top job in UK policing he took solace in self aggrandisement, refitting his office, outdoing his colleagues with flashy official cars and adopting more and more elaborate dress uniforms. Rumour has it he went to one of the official court uniform tailors, maybe G&H for all I know, where he asked for a uniform to be made with those epaulettes with dangly fringes on them, like those cinema ushers used to wear. He was told that as a county chief constable he was not entitled to have them on his dress uniform whereupon he threatened to take his work elsewhere. The tailor is said to have told him that if he learnt that he had been wearing a uniform with the aforesaid dangly bits on it he would report him to the Lord Chamberlain, which of course would be extremely embarrassing for someone in his position. At this point the chief backed down and contented himself with some ornate ropes to wear like a sash. Hoist by his own petard.

I have always wanted bespoke military wear, but l would get much fancier uniform than Micheal Jackson or Prince Charles, l would get the something even more fancy with one of those awesome hats.

I might even get one some day. I could pop it on when l am at home or visiting the shops. Or maybe l could wear it when l am mowing the lawn.
This is the type of thing l want. Lmagine how awesome it would be to wear all those rope thingees on your coat.

I was a big fan of Adam Ant's Napoleonic military highwayman jacket - a great act, but shame he lost his marbles for two decades.
OK what about the M65?
I have an M42 and tank jacket I sport occassionally, but they lack all credentials compared to ones with epaulettes.
