Scabal MTM (Saville Row) Vs. Cad & The Dandy fully bespoke suit
Hello, I am new to the forum, been browsing a while as a guest and now decided to sign up to post my question. I don’t wear suits often and only have bought off-the-rack ones from department stores in the past. The most expensive being a YSL suit which was half price at £250 a few years back.
For my wedding, in 2 months, I have decided to push out the boat and get a nice top end 3 piece suit. I would love to get a full bespoke hand made suit from a Saville Row tailor but my budget is £1500. I have visited a number of tailors in London looking for the right cloth, suit cuts, etc within my price range.
I visited the Scabal flagship store on Saville Row and tried on one of their off-the-rack suits which I liked and thought fit me well even though it was on the tight side. They are able to get me a 3 piece made-to-measure (MTM) suit for around £1500, and it is fully customisable with pocket styles, lapel width, button colour and so on. It is half canvas and machine made/stitched. There is the initial measurement stage and then a second meeting once the suit is ready.
I also went to Cad & The Dandy on Saville Row and met their staff for a consultation on the variety of fabrics they can offer me. The price is pretty much the same as the Scabal MTM but C&D would provide me with their fully top end option bespoke suit. This has a full floating canvas and is all hand stitched and has the baste fitting stage as well. I tried on a suit which they had on a dummy and it fit pretty well considering it was not cut for my body.
Considering both of the options are the same price, does anyone have any experience of the two firms or any advice on which would be the better purchase for me? I liked both and was going to go with the Scabal MTM as it is a well respected tailor and fabric manufacturer and feel the customer service will be better in case of problems. But then am hesitant as think the C&D provides better value being full canvas and baste fitting and will in the end fit me better and look more expensive due to this. I intend to get pretty much the same fabric from both firms. BTW the Scabal full canvas bespoke option was around £3500! As a guide on their pricing structures C&D MTM £800, Scabal MTM £1500, C&D £1500 full bespoke, Scabal £3500 full bespoke.
I have not tried either. However, two months could be a tight deadline for a bespoke suit.
Scabal will not be made on Savile Row.
Other London tailors could do a bespoke suit for that money -though possibly not in two months.
