Re: Tom Wolfe Lecture...

I liked that. Quite entertaining.

Status definitely plays a big role in mens clothing. I encounter people who deny this a lot and I think it explains why they never get it right. How can you deny the existence of what you're looking for? I believe that a lot of people want status for themselves but want to shame others away from desiring the same. maybe they even feel empowered by society to shame the other into not seeking status in the name of serving a higher goal. I myself have always believed status to be a prime mover in mens fashion which is why i achieve what i want without resistance. Ironic that I was accused of class insecurity by some of the very people who deny the existence of the entire status hierarchy. Of course those people were massively insecure on all accounts and trying to cover up their lack of sophistication by attacking someone else but the fact remains there are people who dont know that their interest in grooming and dressing involve an interest in both culture and status.

"in the short time we have together" Heck. Ars longa tempus fugit. Did they get a fag break? And -er -it's  "orang-utan" or "orangutan" NOT "orangutang". Ugh. Writers who can't spell, when they are trying to be smart are as nearly bad as that sanctimonious (but chaotic) Bob Geldof and family in lecturing the world on how to live.

"they look absolutely petite, his feet do..."

Mmn. It's not Hemingway or Parker is it? In fact, dare I venture that it is clumsy tripe?
