Fascinating programme on ITV about Hatton Garden.
It is right by the office I used to work in. The Garden on one side and Leather Lane on the other.
A great place for people watching and an insight into what goes on in a lot of these places. For example, Mastermelt, opposite Tuffo's caff that I used from time time, made money from the sweepings off the floor. All the hoovering got melted down and some surprised goldsmiths got a couple of grand from what came out of their Hoover
Then again, some of the dealers were operating on poor margins and losing money from time to time.
Terrible premises for many too. Never cleaned or decorated, whereas corporate places are usually spotless.
I had thought they would feature some of the security people too. Like the fellow at Holborn Circus end that our smokers talked to, or the gobby cockney that worked opposite Tuffos, or the big Poles that worked the places in the middle. There was one bloke that was always red from a sun bed that you would see. He used to refer to the waitresses in the cafés as "swede art". Retail premises were remarkably empty when I walked past. I always thought the Indian market, which is a big one, shopped elsewhere. Lovely old couple commissioning a naff but expensive broach. He had a really shiny silver suit and a terrible tie but they said he was a lawyer.
FNB himself would be interested in that couple.
Then I would look out the window on certain days and see the CEO of de Beers helicopter take off at 5 pm heading home.

Oh! Oh! Oooh! Leather Lane - I remember it very, very well! Miranda, in number 37, remembers you too! Seven smacks across the arse and a quick half of cider in The Mitre after - before you went down 'The Drain', from Holborn Viaduct, to Waterloo, and back home to Mummy! Didn't she do well? Oooh! I just hope that the weals didn't show!
Is she still pole dancing in The Griffin as well ?
OMG The Griffin - remember it very well - Har Har Har - Goodness, some of those gals were GORGEOUS MMMMNNNNN!
Mind you, the 32 GGs that I remember, all pink and perky, thonged-up and willing, are probably lucky to win a grab-a-granny contest down the Hippodrome on a Friday night nowadays! All sagging and shrivelled up as they must be: O tempores O mores!

Miranda is now further down the lane.
Above S&M Tools. Appropriately named.
