I first came upon John Helmer's website as a result of Googling Alan Paine sweaters and, sadly, found just a small handful of shops, which is probably not much more than the total number of such haberdashers still in existence. The decline of these stores, which flourished in years past, no doubt has contributed to the decline of their suppliers.

Interestingly, many of the posters are ones that we don't hear from too often on the board. Looks like they actually buy or bought things, rather bemoan the state of Brooks/Press whilst at the same time being solely denizens of discount stores.
Also a perceptive post I think about how some traditional items have migrated to the internet while others haven't made that transition.
