I should imagine. We have to be getting fairly far along if this thing was written in the 70's though.
Yeah, i noticed the step laterally in the 50's there. Just noting it should all be coming together.
Too bad Chelsea has turned into a Russian Oligarch sanctuary. I would have loved to been there back when. A little violence always keeps it interesting.

...fucking iPads......:roll eyes:
Well, that isn't really helping me figure out what you are on about.
My understanding was that John Stephen worked at Vince and went on his own and took many of Vince's teenage customers with him. John Stephen was gay so clearly he saw that kids weren't afraid to wear bright colours and cutting edge design (for the era). If he predicted fashion trends or just created them I guess we'll never know. I think he realised early on if he could sell the same gear aimed only at youth he'd own the market for the Modernist. I don't think though, he could have predicted how fast and big a movement it would become from the roots of an underground Jazz scene. From there really it was down hill for the Mods. Mods had already rejected the term teenager, which was seen by them as a marketing term to sell crap records by crap pop stars. By 1962 most hip Mods dropped the term Modernist and were stylists. While teenage fashion got more and more bright Mods cropped their hair shorter and morthed into what we'd call skinheads, when that got too mainstream they became seudeheads. Whats quite weird about the mod thing today is that theres loads of really bad companies selling badly made gear to a "scene" just like Stephens did 50 years ago. Very different to those early prototypes in the mid to late 50s. I suppose all sub cultures end up going down the plug hole once people realise they can get an earner of it.

What else do you think he would have filled a chapter with from that time period? It's the only thing I can think of offhand from the UK in that time period. Was there a preppy thing going on at all?
