I like U2 musically up to Zooropa.
The early stuff stands up on its own, even though its too political for my taste.
The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua tree are saved by Lanois's production. More so The Joshua Tree..
Rattle & Hum is a disaster...
Achtung Baby is the best album of the 90's, completely original. Brian Eno had a big part in that.
I like Zooropa because its quirky and because a lot of others didn't, which has its own rewards...
I lost interest after that...
I like Simple Minds early electro stuff, I don't really mind Once Upon a Time if I'm honest....Street Fighting Years is shit....don't know much of their work after that...

Thanks formby. I spose its the thought that counts! I've got that book and fair chunk of what has been written about Bob over the years. I'm not sure if Cohn eventually changed his view, saw the light, in later years. But even that shallow piece above acknowledges that Bob paved the way for a lot of people.
You'll be thrilled to learn that one of my nephews is giving me a spare tick to go see Bob on Monday night with him. So I'll be able to report back, almost live. At a suitably quiet moment I'll yell out "formby" -- only you and me will get it.
Which brings up the question, what should I wear to the concert?

What are the options?
David Crosby's rust fringed suede jacket Hendrix Paisley shirt
Nick Cave black Levi's
Oli's RM Macqurie boots
I had a lovely beige/tan soft suede fringed jacket custom made years ago but someone pinched it at a party after spiking my drinks, or drugs , or food, or somethink. Black jeans I still have but the only RMs I have are both Cuban heels? Although one pair is black Santa Fe. Not boots of Spanish leather though. No paisley shirt in wardrobe. Just been through shirts and donating 30 shirts I don't like. Ms. Reckons 25 Blue and variations OCBDs are enough! And then she discovered new stuff still in wrappers on top of wardrobe.u
Part of me is thinking black skinny jeans, black Cuban heeled Santa fe RMs, black leather jacket, the non bikie type one like a sport jacket almost, and white ocbd.
Or
White jeans, brown suede boots, navy peacoat, pink ocbd.
Or
White drill trousers, white t, red/blue tartan shirt, khaki field jacket.
Or.......,?
Will Dylan be "electric"? If so, boo and jeer mightily.
Post electric Bob Dylan is actually far superior to pre electric Bob Dylan in my opinion.
agree completely ... the voice is too much in the forefront on the pre-1965 records .....

I've never liked acoustic Bob much - same with Neil.
Although in an effort to curry favour with Formby - I'm sure I'd like Spandau Ballet and Duran Duran doing an acoustic medley of their greatest hit.
Who ever said Bob was a radical?
