No luck so far with my shaggy dog search. I'm after a light grey size small and they're apparently sold out everywhere. If anyone knows something I don't, please tell.
I suppose one can only hope - although I would suggest that if the online revolution didn't give them the much needed kick up the backside that they so evidently needed - the threat having Alex Salmond at the helm shouldn't yield much change. In all fairness to Jeff - where he says 'when Yes Scotland prevails' - I'd give a more cautious 'if' - interesting times indeed !

It was sarcasm. I'm not Scottish and therefore have no vote. Just part of the diaspora looking in from afar. I'd like to see Yes prevail, but it seems unlikely. Every poll I have seen going back over a year has Yes trailing by a good margin.
Still no response to the request I sent to Harley. I doubt I would trust them to handle my order at this point anyway. While Spirit of Shetland doesn't have the best website, and their wares are more expensive, they are responsive and delivered on time with a good product. I'll say we are Better Together.
No offence intended - apologies if that's how I came across. It would appear that there is some secret code amonst these cottage industry shetland sweater producers to discourage any potential buyers. Got in touch with a couple of different ones a while back, with a view to having a yoke pattern fairisle made - one promised to get back to me but never did, the other just completely ignored my e-mail. How they manage to keep going, or why they bother having any web prescence baffles me.
Hi Bop,
I phoned the factory shop (tel: 01950-431-215); ask for Rosemary.
When I called, back in Dec 2013, they only had 7 colours in stock in my size, some with non-obvious hues (Java, Elephant etc.). Rosemary did her best to describe the colours and I tried to compare them with the colour palettes I'd found on line or with stock listed on O'Connell's site. It worked out well in the end, especially for a colour-blind shopper!!
TBH, I think they export nearly everything they can make so domestic supply isn't one of their main priorities.
This guy must be a charmer, because mine was over 60GBP (inc. postage). (Worth it too.)
Anyone here have experience with this company?

I have got one too Jeff much the same experience as Mallard.
Also i didnt like the fact that the seam of the saddle shoulder is behind the shoulder (WTF)!
Thanks, guys. Saves me the expense. The price looked to good to be true for high quality. And so it is confirmed.
Regarding Harley shetlands, I read somewhere that their sweaters are rebadged and sold by Cable Car Clothiers in San Francisco. Anybody know if this really is the case. I'm visiting SF in the autumn (or fall to use the vernacular) and was looking to see if the Cable Car stuff was anything special. If they are just rebadged Harleys then It will be much cheaper to get them in the UK. Any ideas???
I enjoyed the experience of CCC, but didn't see any shetlands when I was there, but tbf I wasn't looking - I was elbow deep in shirts.
Gotta nail some more Shetlands too, so many great colours that would buoy my wardrobe!!!
I want a pink one.
Yeh I agree, I want the full spectrum of shetlands. Definitely the all-round ivy showpiece item as far as I'm concerned. I've got a couple of J.Press shaggy dogs which are utterly bonkers. A totally different vibe to the standard shetlands. Actually, they are a real statement like wearing a smoking jacket or something. They always draw comment. Pity J.Press are such bastards at sending stuff out to Japan. Even though they are Japanese owned blah-di-blah etc....
We interrupt this thread to bring you a PSA from TI's resident curmudgeon. Laurence Odie, formerly Laurence Smith (not to mention Shetlands in general) have been discussed here so many times I'm not sure what to think when people ask about them. What about using the very convenient 'search' function? Do saddle shoulders really make or break a sweater for you guys? Laurence and Rosemary are both helpful and the product is very nice; they make for all the usual suspects. I also like Jamieson's. Just my two cents.
Marlowe,Do you think Oliver might be the owner of Odie ? Maybe he owns the Shetland Isles ?
For a while i suspected he may have been one of the Brooks Brothers.
In all seriousness you have been a member of this forum for a very long time.
As a consequence you may have been involved in Shetland debate's back in the day.
However don't spoil it for the newer generation ,its all good and you still might learn new things.
Now does anyone know where i might find some decent high rise chino's ?
They have to be reasonably priced and made in the USA, not much to ask is it ?
