Re: BBC Radio 2 All-Time 100 Greatest Guitar Riffs

Pretty hard to quibble with the list, they cover most of the major ground. You can always move them around a bit, but that's kind of nitpicking.

Seems like they consciously tried to keep from repeating bands though. Aerosmith's Sweet Emotion should be on there, and I think ZZ Top's best riff is Just Got Paid by a mile.

It was nice to see Fleetwood Mac's - Oh Well get in there. A great track.

I'm not surprised by the winner. The smart money would have gone on that Zep track.

^ Yeah. They have been playing the Rockets version of Oh Well on sat radio a lot lately. I like the Mac version better though.

There are a few ripoffs on there.  Misirlou is a Greek folk song.

That list makes me glad to have escaped the confines of rock.

There is one gigantic omission here. Nazareth - Hair of the Dog.

Yes, Formby, and blues and jazz.  Most structured, listenable music relies on a pretty strict framework.

I think Immigrant Song and Black Dog would also be strong Zep contenders.  I'd put Black Dog's riff ahead of Whole Lotta Love.

Re: BBC Radio 2 All-Time 100 Greatest Guitar Riffs

I'd have to throw Bubble Puppy's Hot Smoke and Sassafras in the list.  That riff is monstrous.  If I were to start a rip roaring rock n' roll band, that's what I'd want it to sound like.
