Jdemy,
Try the 1947 model, it's a cracking fit with a decent rise and good taper.
In my experience the '55 cut does not shrink in the waist only in the leg length.
'47 does shrink up both ways but can get quite tight in the thighs.
....Sizing with LVC and accounting for shrinkage can be a minefield add to that the jeans cost 215 pounds, why not try the 505 jeans first? Or maybe hit up the store in central London?
Yes, but at least "deadstock" won't describe my bank account...
Which ones have the higher rise? The 47's or the 54's ?
47's but it's marginal.
The 55s have a slightly 'squarer' cut and have a lower rear rise, so look lower on the waist.
Thanks, definitley worth it when found on sale.

The US Levis store also lists they sit on the waist.

Model is 6ft and wears a size 3232

I was in the fair city of Bristol on the weekend, where I didst hie me unto the hideous designer jumblesale that is TKMaxx. Perusing the menswear I happed upon Lee's Brooklyn fit jeans, which are very good fit-wise.
Very good rise on them, straight leg but with a slimfit (not too slim though). Dark indigo - no fancy selvedge Japanese denim or anything like that, obviously, but they were about £20. Worth checking out.
Have to check 'em out!
Gonna go to the tailor tomorrow and fix the length on my 505! Any reference point? I don't like to cuff jeans. The width is 7.5 (19 cm). Good?
Get a 1.5" cuff man, with the hem restored - I always cuff jeans if I can, but perhaps that's the Mod in me.....
I agree, though I go for 1" cuff - t'is also the mod in me, I also like them to sit a little high. Have a pair of Lee 101z I might sell on if anyone is interested as find they don't suit my butt!! Just given them a 30º wash and will photograph them soon, size 32 with a 30 leg and 1" cuff.
I will do that!
Is there any pictures of you guys in the jeans maybe? Just to get a picture of how it looks..
Are you lucky enough to be near a place that has a Union Chain Stitch machine to correctly finish the hem? Not a deal breaker but if you are it's worth going to them, google will help you if this doesn't make sense.
There are pics of me in 505's in the WAYW thread, sorry got slow internet today and my flickr is just not loading up?
^ wise words T,
becomes really apparent as the jeans age, gives the hem that great 'rope fade' edge.
and if it's the place I'm thinking of they match the thread colour pretty good as well.
Or, if you can't find a place that does the chain stitching, you can have the original hem cut off and stitched back on after losing the extra fabric, if you've got a decent seamstress.
