I'm looking for something that looks like this, but without a date. I really don't like that white blob, and I don't ever like to have the date on a watch. But, if the date were not outlined in white, I'd consider it. I also like this size and round with a leather strap is a must.
What I most like about the look of this watch is the "antique" style. I don't know anything about watches. Makes searching a little difficult.
I would even go vintage for something similar in looks.
I'd search "lord elgin" on eBay. They made a plethora of decent mechanical wind rectangular face watches. You can probably find one in great condition in the <$200 range. If it hasn't been serviced prior to purchase, have a reputable watchmaker clean and lube it.

I like the look of the Ole Mathiesen watches.
I also like the look of the Orient Bambino here:

Other than styling, though, I have no idea what I am looking at in watches.

That Bambino looks good, but I've never been impressed with the Orient watches in the flesh.
^That's because they're the watch choice of the developing world. You're in the wrong neighbourhood by far, but in saying that, the Bambino is a babe and I could be tempted too.
Given a 30% discount and a decent return policy, I went ahead and bought this model Orient Bambino:

Also got a free watch to pick after ordering. Ugly and clunky looking things (to be expected), but I got one with a black strap for the strap alone.
Please do post your verdict on it.
Thanks!
It's a nice looking watch. But I did notice they incorrectly swapped the numerals for 3:00 and 7:00 positions. WOOPS!!
Well done Jeff. That's a nice looking watch. Hope it gives you many years of reliable and accurate service.
Aye, understated, refined and without the embarassment factor of the bling of a modern Rolex.
