Presumptious I know but a suggestion

I`m new here, and gradually working my way through the posts and threads and I can`t help but notice the current jack sparrow has had other personas.

What shines through on all his posts is his wealth of knowledge, wit and just good old common sense ,he  in my opinion would make an excellent Film Noir buff agony uncle, where a dilema,  could be posed and Uncle Jack could reply in his own immitable style.

If I may kick things off with the following.

Dear Uncle Jack,

since my wife has taken to reading Cosmopolitan magazine she is making strange requests in the bedroom, last night for example she asked me to kiss her on her front bottom , now been a lights off missionary only type of guy, this indeed seemed exotic and the sensation wasn`t unpleasurable to her.

Is this wrong or should we indulge further with our eroticism. Perhaps  leaving the lights on during our carnal pleasures.

Oh the temptation to respond!

Too much this evening from you & Mike. Your Uncle is going off duty for a little quiche (I hope).
You & Mike must talk clothes from now on you know.
We've had our fun.
Time to get down to work.

C.M. - Who's shirts do you wear?

So, Cheeky Monkey, to synthesize the two lines of conversation in this thread, do you, like Mr. Bond, prefer that the collar matches the cuffs or do you like a contrast collar?

Need to know what you're aiming for, CM.
If you like BDs & are in England (?) buy Brooks OCBDs while they are still US made?
Slimfit or Regular - Both are good.
Two shops in London. Take your pick.

Time for quiche!

True. B.O.D. was the high point of the idea.

Hey Cheeky! (Surely the campest salutation on the planet?),

Do a 'Search' on 'Bastard on Duty' & you'll soon be up to speed.

The BD is THE American contribution to the world of shirts, although the AK 'Rodeo' shirt is pretty unique too...

Americans still do the BD style best in my opinion, although you can get English shirts which are increasingly good in this style from various sources - Boden, etc. In the past the Brits could never get the collar roll right. Things are changing a bit now tho'...

As for my sartorial story I grew up with English "Trad" & American Ivy League style was my break with all that. I've stuck with it ever since.
In a rut, but happy.

If you like the soft collars of classic American shirts you may be interested in the soft shoulders of classic American jackets. You won't find many in Brooks Bros, but you will in J. Simons. Look out for Jeff in there - A big smile, glasses, kinda bald, VERY helpful. He can tell you about 'The Natural Shoulder' and show you what he means in a way which will won't make you feel like you are excluded from some sort of club. He has to be one of the most approachable guys in any shop in England.

Niche stuff over here, but if you love it you love it.

Good luck exploring.

Never be shy to ask questions -

Re: Presumptious I know but a suggestion

Uncle jack,
yes your greeting did sound a little camp, I now have a picture in my mind of you looking like Larry Gration or perhaps Dick Emery (ohh you are awful, but I like you) dressed up like President Kennedy,( perhaps with a sailors cap set at a jaunty angle)  which is I`m guessing the look you refer to when you describe the type of clothes you like.( other than the sailors cap)

Thanks for the advice on J.simons, I can see I am heading on a voyage of discovery ( unlikely I will be home for supper ,I suppose).

best regards.

Cheeky

Oddly, like Gomez, I'm a big fan of the lil' pink inkwell.

Maybe I'm just too English for the Net?

Re: Presumptious I know but a suggestion

Jack, by the way what is an AK rodeo shirt.

Is it what the cowboys wear when the bulls and horses are trying to get them off their backs or is there an in joke I am missing?

Is it a shirt that less enlightened people wear and those in the know take the piss out of ( god I hope  I don`t inadvertently wear one- and all the clothing enlightened people laugh at me)

If its a cowboy shirt I can`t imagine them being too popular in England outside of a country and western line dancing troop.

Re: Presumptious I know but a suggestion

Only a silly old joke and clothing MB reference.
There's a guy on the Net who has a high opinion of his shirts and we tend to look at them and wonder why.
The Rodeo shirt was especially bad taste... And yet he was pleased with it & so was his client (I guess).

So what is good and what is bad after all?

To each their own.

Just don't tell the rest of us it's any damn good!

Re: Presumptious I know but a suggestion

I think if we have any 'trolls' over here at all (for what is a troll?) they are making a great contribution. They are good regular posters, they are creating interest in the forum, they bring in random elements into threads which can be fun, they add to the mix.

The ratio of fun to clothes talk must always be in favour of clothes talk on a clothing forum tho'. IMHO.
