Re: Female ivy or the Seven Sisters look

It's funny that he doesn't write about his own clothes, as he graduated in 1964 in Harvard...

The description of the black audience and musicians at this concert is followed on the next page by the description of Duke Ellington who was "Ivy League anti-matter (?) from head to toe" in his "Zoot suit length jacket"...

Honestly, before I had read these lines mentioning the Seven sisters look, I thought this stuff might be a made up internet thing, but no... it isn't... it even seems to have played a similar role for hip young African American women as the IL look did for African American men...

That guy on the stage looks like he could probably care less that he's surrounded by pretty young ladies.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.  Just an observation.

HAHA.  Of course... large, heavy, dripping wet sauna towels.  Just pile 'em on.

Yeah, and look at the low rise on those trousers.  Very suspect.

I think it's the "inverted amphora".

I just noticed you can also see the panty line of the girl bent over painting the steps.

Re: Female ivy or the Seven Sisters look

The picture is composed beautifully. The two "amphora" figures mirror each other, just like the two kneeling girls are. The two standing girls close the picture to the right. Apart from the girl on the ladder - who does not matter, which is underlined by the way she is blurred - these two are the only twin group to do different things. Wonder what the message is there.

Oh well, and Miss bucket is quite perky. Nice.

Re: Female ivy or the Seven Sisters look

Ms. Bucket

I once knew a girl named Ms. Bucket,
who went to school up round Nantucket

The school was only for girls,
who teased me with ribbons and curls

Her breasts were pert
she had innocent eyes
and I knew to get close
I'd need a disguise

I found an old dress in my mothers chest
I padded a bra for the appearance of breasts

I entered the school by the cover of night,
and checked a small mirror to make sure I looked right

In the reflection something I feared,
I had neglected to shave my patchy young beard

I found some tweezers and began to pluck it,
for I hoped I could get close enough
for Ms. Bucket to suck it.

Re: Female ivy or the Seven Sisters look

The girl reading the paper looks good, but generally I think the style of females in Italy and France in the 50s and 60s looked far more stylish and flattering. I think I said that before a while ago, but the more vintage continental films I see the more I believe it, so perhaps worth repeating. Otoh I don't think the mid century continental look for males was particularly better than ivy (or worse for that matter), just different.

That's not to imply that I am not enjoying the thread though; it's a good topic, and any more old school female ivy shots are most welcome. And Makers shirts definitely look wonderful on chicks.
