What book is that Tom? Lovely stuff! That patch-pocket suit the guy is wearing in the second picture - that's the suit. Oh yes.

I know, 'tis a beaut Harpo. The book is Mid-century Ads: Advertising from the Mad Men Era.

Grim title, great price. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/3836528347/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Ah, I've seen that (sealed!) in bookshops. Ooof, that's a tempting price.

What would you say is the ratio of clothes adverts or ads heavily featuring clothes - rather than, say, just Big knockers or cars (not to say that they don't interest me either)?

And when I say big knockers, I do infact, mean k*i*t*c*h*e*n*s (not to say they don't interest me either).

There is not a lot more in the way of clothing, but it is a great book if you are interested in the ads and styling of the era, one book is 50s the other 60s,
being in the game it appeals to me, the old school travel ads etc.

There are quite a few ads with the look - for say petrochemicals etc, but not clothing directly.

Re: The Ivy League Style: The Boom Years.

I love the styling and the graphic "values"  for want of a better word, of the era. As you say, the look crops up in all sorts of ads - fags, beer, petrochem. Love the travel stuff - one of the things that strikes me is how the actual images could be reused for multiple ads. The second image, for instance could be for Pan-Am - they're all selling the lifestyle, as much as anything.

Haha.  I honed right in on that suit too.  The blatant edges, the patch pockets, the drool on my keyboard.  And man, just check the silhouette of the that guy in the HSM suit, especially the trousers.

That's where the name comes from but it's applied to all colours of plain toe Blucher, or plain Derbies to use the proper British nomenclature.

Lovely stuff. I've got a late 50's Botany 500 tailored by Daroff suit - it's epic.

Maybe you could start a new thread when you get yours. looks like a lot of good stuff to post ( which is beyond my computer skills)

I still haven't procured a decent scanner.  They're pretty cheap though and my only excuse is laziness.  But, your idea there lends more incentive.  On top of that there's the other hard copy yearbooks I want to post for you boys.
