For a while I've wanted a suit from Mr. Powell. I remember him from Archer Street days and then from 'Violet's' - The best club I ever went to twice.
Trouble is I'm scared of him.
Best if I just stay at home then, fooling around on the Net. Where's the harm in that?

Was it Ronnie or Reggie who was the puff- this could have importance as to the publics perception -and therefore sales.
Just ask Jack "the hat" Mcvitie (bet he wishes he had stayed in the familly biscuit making enterprise)
A little more Kray style:
"In the 1960’s, the British media often represented the East End of London as a somewhat glamorous and trendy area because of its underworld connotations. Images by famous photographer David Bailey showed snappily dressed young men wearing stylish suits and narrow ties, stovepipe trousers and sharply pointed shoes."

I guess it must be something to do with the eastend of London but dappernes continues today in Gents from that region.( uncle Jack could probably pass comment better than myself)
Ray Winstone and Vinny Jones spring to mind as two actors who can be regarded as snappy dressers and are to some extent type cast as Villains.
What are peoples thoughts on the Kemp brothers film of the Krays from the 80`s. -Realistic or over glamourised.
I have my own thoughts but would be intrested in others views
Going off at a bit of a tangent - does anyone know if Eastend Gangsters such as the Kray gang or the Richardson Gang got their inspiration for being well turned out and sartorially smart from the 20`s and 30`s mobsters in Chicago-guys like Moran or obviously Capone.
certainly beats the look of Gangsta`s of modern day.
IMVHO:
The Krays film got over-hyped and so it was a let down ('Absolute Beginners' was much, much, much worse tho'!). I thought they over glamourised the style of the twins in the film and in doing so made them less stylish... Sense?
Reggie K. loved Gangster films & Gangster style. You have to think of him growing up in a world of very little in the East End and seeing all those Edward G. films. Inspirational stuff for any kid... Murder is still murder tho'...
Ronnie was sharper to my eye, but was Reggie the real style leader? - He just didn't wear it quite as well? (No reflection on Reg., He had been unwell as a nipper).
Reg was the Gay one & buggered Lord Boothby (Why not?)... I think also that Reg was more outgoing (when not depressed) and more the 'man about town' figure. Ron was maybe more of the businessman? Kray experts are welcome to slap me down over this.
I love the style of the twins. Apart from that their world isn't mine...
I do, however, hugely admire that way in which they made themselves something out of very little.
Had they been straight businessmen they would have been in the House of Lords by the mid-70's at the very latest.
Ahhhh... England, my England!

anyone seen Gangster No1 with Paul Bettany and Malcolm McDowell?
My fave british gangster movie, very stylish, as should be since it takes place in the mid 60s mostly.
Not seen it so can't say, Brother Eg. Should I? Worth a link?
I'm thinking of Film Noir guys here too... Cool, poised, well presented, but when it comes down to it an edge of menace comes to the surface.
I recommend considering V. Nicolosi, a "made man," (certified by LL) for gangsta style suiting in NYC.
I really don't know what it means nor how you get the "certification." Certainly I would vote at least one of the Artisans off the island, but no one has ever asked my opinion.
Can't re-edit my post at this late date but I've mixed up my Krays in the post above - Ron was the chum of Lord Boothby, not Reg. If fact in each instance where I mention Reg I mean Ron.

Sloppy work on my behalf.
Sorry.
