Oh I never disputed it... It's entirely dependant on the airline though. I've had an exorbitant ammount of Elevate miles with VA and I fly Gold Status based on points alone. They don't factor spending. I've also been offered status retention on my points by speaking with a VA rep. We're able to keep our status with UA between the trip we booked to the Mid-East 2 years ago and my wife's ocassional board trips through her ogranization. Same with Aeroplan, I often get comped for flights to Montreal and I make the trip at least 2-4 times per year. Other airlines like Southwest calculate on milage alone, regardless of spending. I never fly any other airlines domestically except UA and Virgin though. I've actually sold off all of my Delta SkyMiles on Craigslist last year because they were worthless to me!
A tip from the wise, don't fly Air France.

Delta just upped frequent flyer thresholds.
Lots of info on comping for cats who dig deals here:

I used to always order bourbon at airport bars and then a couple of scotch and sodas on every flight but I've started applying the same to liquor whenever I'm changing timezones and I always feel better for it.
I obviously meant PQM and I've always qualified on bookings through the Chase portal, even when redeeming UR points over dollars.
