Where do you see Cardigans in the scheme of things?

Although the weather today in England has been warm and sunny-balmy and bright ( couldn`t decide on which adjective to use)

Autumn with its golden, orange, russets and browns-approaches.

Now is a time where a man`s thoughts turn to roaring log fires- pulling out the 12 year old malt- and hibernating for the winter.

do you see a nice 3ply buttoned cardigan layered with a button down collared shirt and say a g9.

or a 70`s chunky knit cardie- ala val Doonican (Bob Newheart for you Brooks Brothers wearing Yanks)

how do you see the Humble cardigan?

tomorrow we shall move on to the balaclava.

The cardigan is a classic.  Very underrated, with an unfortunate old man image.

I have a fawn cardigan from Brooks Brothers that I wear on winter evenings, with an OCBD and cords.

Years ago I wore a thick, chunky cardigan with a shawl collar in lieu of a jacket.  The cardigan was from Orvis.

BB feature a Fair Isle cardigan in the autumn 07 catalog, and J Crew sells a nice heather-coloured cardigan.

Nice look Mr.Smart

It`s one I wear fairly frequently in the darker months, personally I think it`s one of the easiest casual layered looks to pull off.

I like the look of a crisp white button down, with a navy cardigan and a navy g9, throw on some levi 505`s and a pair of brown suede slip ons- and you`re ready to go.

what do you wear on the bottom half?

whats youre favourite colour combination up top.

I have a pink (quite a deep pink but a good way from cerise) cashmere cardigan that I have been toying with pairing the white shirt with.

What do you think?

I have my grand dads cardigan which is a dull gold wool with gold/brown suede on either side on front.  what's really cool are the abalone shell buttons (how do you spell that?).  I usually wear it with a white dress shirt and jeans, though I think I'm going to switch to khakis.

You love him? He is hephaistion.

Mine's grey, with brown leather buttons. Like me, sagging a little with age. A good alternative to a sports jacket for many occasions.

Didn't Jack Sparrow post a link recently to some cracking looking cardies recently?

Nipply?

I like "The Rob Petrie":  white OCBD, narrow knit tie with clip, trim trousers, penny loafers.

Are cardigans more of an American male thing? (Just wondering).  No-one except me wears them in Oz.

Re: Where do you see Cardigans in the scheme of things?

Do you button the bottom button on your cardigan?  I don't.

Even though I think cardigans have, what Coolie accurately called an 'old man/Mr. Rogers' image, I think wearing one today is a bit of a retro, Young Fogey-ish statement.

I'd really like a cardigan in a Fair Isle pattern, such as the one offered by BB.  I like Fair Isle; it seems very Young Fogey.
