There's no point in holding neo-imperialist views as it is OVER and there is no need to debate the past here and now because I well appreciate that the material for the antis is thin and unconvincing - so I let you off with a smart salute. In any event there isn't much to debate because Might is Right was the catch cry then as it is now for the USA and nobody much stands up to Uncle Sam - least of all the citizens. It might actually be more productive if someone decided to debate the present rather than the past.
Just leave your sword on the desk.

Don't tell Ask Andy.
I was the spawn of Spanish culture in it's bastardized colonial expression and I can say without a doubt that the bastardized colonial expressions of UK have done much better for mankind than any other empire since the Romans. Just look at the likes of Venezuela, Cuba, Argentina, etc. and compare to the British progeny.
Africa is it's own case, but wherever it sucks is where they reacted against colonialism by going native. There I said it, I am an unreconstructed anglophile because I admire what they did, lived under the culture of a rival world power so I know how it can suck, and am witnessing now the horrors of those who turn away from the Anglo-US model in search of something better.
The entire western world is doing a comprehensive and prolonged mea culpa after WWI (Oh dear me, all we do is exploit people to make war and make money!) and assuming that the charming warm and colorful natives in the villages of equatorial countries can surely do a better job than our repressive superego driven, corrupt, effete, and spent civilization. What the west doesn't realize is that it is handing the keys of the kingdom to the savage dogs of the Id.
Yo! Bro Chev!! Seriously, though, it's about using one's own independent thought and refusing to follow the herd which, on this subject, is easily given a bum's rush of panic to apologize for the very existence of middle-aged white men-let alone the fact that they just might have valid points of view which they have arrived at through experience and observation.

I fear that Brazil is moving towards the extension of long-term credit and mortgages to fund property prices which the availability of this credit is driving upwards. Eight years ago, if you wanted to buy a house here, the whole family clubbed together and paid the full price in, say, five years, without the kind of credit that, eventually, broke US and UK banks. So: WATCH OUT, BRAZIL!
The Romans tended to leave the far corners of Britain alone - so there is little evidence of their presence outside the south of England - largely Londinium and the spa that became Bath. Moreover the Romans didn't stay that long. You have probably got much more Roman blood in you than I. My blood is largely Pyct and Viking; which amuses me quite a bit. However, the British were keen on travelling and, as you say, even settling in places such as Italy; taking their influences in there and bringing others away with them.
Great pictures of the fuzz uniforms!
