Re: Get Down!

I just can't get down with down.

I'm too reminded of sloppy tourists in their North Face things. Same with fleece which has been forever linked in my eye with yuppies in Volvos.

Re: Get Down!

I don`t have a down jacket but I do have a few down vests that I love wearing.

They kind of put me in mind of the 80`s - maybe it was because of the one that Robin williams wore in Mork and Mindy -or the doctor in st.elmos fire- the one who Andi Mcdowel was shagging, - Emillio Estevez tracked them down to a ski cabin in the mountains.

Does anyone else think Mindy was hot in an all American girl next door kind of way- ( it`s allways the quiet ones you know)

Re: Get Down!

The down jacket (not the parka) is so functionally excellent that the style hardly matters - I learned this through 2 winters in Chicago.  I'll wear a blue jacket like the top one when the weather gets below say 10 degrees F - down jacket, viyella shirt, shetland sweater, cords, wool watch cap and bean boots.  I have heavier wool coats but the down is warmer and wears much lighter.  I also have a hooded down parka (also bought in Chicago) that never gets worn.  I do think the classic jacket (non-"technical", please) has a retro ski lodge style that the parka lacks.

Re: Get Down!

With apologies to Ms. Steinem, an American needs a parka like a fish needs a bicycle. As for you lot in the UK, I should think a bulky sweater should be more than sufficient.
