At a cinema near you from Oct 17.

I'm seeing it tonight as it happens. I've heard good reports and I'm a big Coogan fan, so I'll keep you informed. I plan to wear a vest (wifebeater in US English) and giant trousers tonight to look the part, and I've already done some speed in anticipation.
I've just smashed my fishtank doing a back drop and spin.
Actually, I went to a Northern Soul night on Saturday, and it was a really good laugh. There was even someone wearing bags.
I'll be going to see the film.

Saw it on Friday at my local east end cinema - really enjoyed it, of course it's gotta have a story but it's not soppy it's actually a story of friendship mainly.
Great tunes, not all the usual sounds spewed out in these sorts of films, Coogan is brief but brilliant and Lisa Stansfield was in it?
Hope you all enjoy it too - no sign of bags in the auditorium when I was there, or wife beaters.
Enjoyed the film as seems to be the case with a lot of people. Liked the fact it was quite gritty and a million miles away from 'Soulboy'..
This is proving a bit of a dilemma for me.
I would like to see the movie as i like the music but cannot stand northern accents.
All those "Thee's" and "thou's" with a few obligatory "Reet's" , i think they sound like monkeys, yes Northern Monkey's..
I thought it was good – certainly there were bits that were “feelgood” (like the clapping bit when they first went to Wigan).
It reminded me of some of the football casual things – people were scruffy in the 70’s, generally. I think the druggie lads (badly shaven, bad hair, purple vests) were probably the best representation of that era. It was good that they didn’t shy away from the drug bit as well.
Outsiders (I’d like to think) would be thinking “the music’s good” as well as thinking “lots of drug taking and dancing” which is a fair summary.
From my point of view Sadly most people who are into Soul, or scooters, or even “being a mod/ skinhead/ casual” aren’t as interested in clobber – there are a lot of scruffy herberts – so the clothes element was always going to be in fourth place to the music/ dancing/ gear
All the best things come from or were invented in the North, that's why the cockernees have such a chip on their shoulders

I enoyed it, but with so many similarities/overlaps to my own life it's hard for me to be objective.
What's funny is that the ivy connection is a little tenuous but certainly exists - as this thread attests - yet for someone who is unaware of it, it's certainly not apparent from the film, where the clothes and lifestyle are both a hell of a long way away from ivy (with the exception of occasional Sherman OCBDs, with half decent collar rolls).
Is this the Brits only room? I have no idea wtf you guys are talking about.
WM - this old ex UK tragic plays mostly Northern Soul on Melbourne radio. You can listen on the net.
Like YUCA said much of it is very curates egg stuff. Pedestrian and formulaic. But occasionally some obscure stuff shines.
