Surely the obvious thing with politics is the extremes may look to correct imbalances but don't sustain themselves by the very nature that they are extremes.
Ok, being a doc I can offer a few insights about Cuban medical care. It is vastly overrated. It was sold at first as the first true universal health care in this hemisphere, and that is still true. As all universal systems it is good for acute care, and management of chronic conditions. Not so for evolving conditions, semi- urgent surgical problems, sophisticated diagnosis, or advanced therapies.
It got it's reputation during the Angolan civil war when Cuban doctors acted on the field competently, and compared to the native care or poorly organized relief organizations they looked like magicians.
A few years ago they made a bid for medical tourism, including Plastic Surgery (that's how I know about it) and failed miserably.
But go no further than when they really want to shine, their showcases. Fidel Castro ignominiously had a botched diverticulitis procedure, then finally had to get Spanish Doctors to set him right. And then the idiot Chavez goes to Cuba to get his cancer surgery and gets mishandled too.
So Cuban health care is exceptional when compared to other poor backward countries. But when the chief indians want the best care, they go outside the reservation. That should tell you something.
I'd take US healthcare over Cuban any day. The only problem is, if I lived in the US there's no way I'd be able to afford healthcare (even if I sold all my clothes and records).
Now I have unveiled the workings of the Great Wizard of The Guardian - watch, you will see that behind the left wing progressive BS, they always jump into line, amongst he quickest when there's a bombing campaign in the offing. Their credentials (ahem) are completely false.
Our group rates have gone up 20% the past two years combined.
3 Healthcare 4 Everyone!!!!
Yo...!!!!
