Are certain models like the Marlin, truely trad? or is that only one persons opinion?
Funny you should mention old Hamiltons, I have my grand dads, gold with a very plain face, and it's on a brown leather band. So this would be an Ivy watch eh? Cool. I never really think about the OPH as I've only see it a couple of times. You seem to know quite a lot about it, do you have a copy? Maybe I should get a copy, I'll have to look in the used book shops.
I having trouble figuring out what is 'Ivy' and what is 'Trad' or 'Preppy'. How does one learn to tell the difference?
You know, I`ve allways regarded Timex watches- (as uncle Jack describes) a school boy watch ( perfect for irresponsible little tykes who have a habbit of loseing, swaping and breaking things)
Indeed I remember swapping my timex watch with the 1st xv captain in the changing rooms after games. He got my watch and in exchange I kept my nose in one piece- at least It wasn`t as bad as Atkinson(minor) who had to swap his Parker 75, to keep his rectum intact.
An evil little voice inside my head keeps telling me that people who bang on about the quallity and timelessness ( no pun intended) of timex are poor people who can`t afford better, as opposed to frugal people, everyone knows they would rather have a blinged up Rolex imho

Paul Fussell's "Class," another trad touchstone (and entertaining read), also touts the Timex on a grosgrain band as a totem of the "Upper-Middles," as he calls them.
I am a champion misplacer of watches, gloves, umbrellas, etc., and I favor the simplest Timex watches--they look good, are dependable, and expendable. You can find working models from the fifties and sixties pretty cheap on Ebay--they are very handsome.
If I somehow came into possession of a Rolex, I would immediately sell it--but then, I'm not a watch guy.
I also write with a Bic pen!
And then his posts go on...
Ben Silver was boosted early on by him...
No, H., no, wrong name to pick.
B.S. is BS to those with longer memories than yours. I thought you learned all this stuff from your Pa?
