took a look at the J.Simons website - it looks like they have on offer for this Autumn/winter naval peacoats.
anyone have a clue as to wether these are authentic new stock - or previously issued .
are they authentic coats ?-In as much as are they actuall ones issued in the US navy?
what alternatives are availlable preferably in England?
what would be the royal navy equivelant be? and are these availlable anywhere?
Mr Bell-Drier posted a bit ago about something he had his eye on in that line.
The JS coats are made by the same people that make for the US Navy. They're not ex-Navy stock or anything. Just nice jackets.
Now hurry up & drink your petrol like a good boy.

after Jacks refrence to aother site I took a over there - someone provided a nice link to a site where there was a long and detailed discussion on -how to tell the age and authenticity of a naval pea coat.
( what I don`t now know about pea coats isn`t worth knowing -if Mr. Buff wishes-I am willing to become the resident pea coat expert)
The M&S doesn`t look a bad attempt and obviously pays more than lip service to the original - but I think I`m going to source out an authentic.
My nice Army surplus place in Montparnasse is on Boulevard Pasteur in an old garage with a tin roof.
Mainly ex-NATO stuff with some very nice French items also.
