Was that your worry over pink shirts?

No longer anything you should even be thinking of, IMHO.

Pink has surely been fine since at least the 50's.

Re: Are pink shirts 'Ivy'?

I have never had an issue with pink shirts - I`m secure in my sexuality-secure in the sense , that I like to be  secured to the bed with ropes and handcuffs.

That aside anyone any opinion on pink sweaters or cardigans - is this a step to far-too feminine perhaps or even worse -too golferish.

Re: Are pink shirts 'Ivy'?

For me the problem with pink shirts has nothing to do with masculinity/femininity, but a rather unfortunate pasty redness to my complexion that pink just does not complement in the least.

Re: Are pink shirts 'Ivy'?

Few Canadians or Americans wear pink shirts to work.  Pink is common amongst the prep school set probably because sexuality isnt at question and there seems to be a relaxed atitude towards androgeny. Not to suggest these men are sexually secure or dynamos, they just know theyre lousy lovers and accept it rather than the macho stance that seems to worry about gayness in every action.

Pink is very common in England and amongst her former African colonies where pink flatters the natives. Somehow pink disassociated itself with effeminacy in England.

In Italy, the pink/lilac/purple route isnt that popular either.

In NYC, I see more pinks and lilacs but still it really takes a rare fellow to wear it. Americans prefer stronger colors like purple/red/maroon. The reaction to pink shirts on others is relaxing a bit but there is work to be done.

Re: Are pink shirts 'Ivy'?

Another fascinating split between the US & UK - Pink is maybe a slightly more 'sophisticated' choice over here when compared with White or Blue shirts, but it's still nothing very special.

I'd taken the Pink BD for granted - Is it really an issue in the US? Or are we just talking about the views of an uninformed minority here?

Re: Are pink shirts 'Ivy'?

It is an issue, at least in my experience.  I get compliments from women whenever I wear pink shirts (spread collar and OCBD), which is quite often.  It clearly stands out.  I don't see a lot of American men wearing them, apart from finance types in NYC.

They were never an issue in London.

Re: Are pink shirts 'Ivy'?

Interesting discussion.  I don't have an answer either, as I think it's hard to generalize about the US though Buff does as good of a job as possible.  But question:  would anyone wear a pink OBCD to a judicial court?
