Believe it or not, Gentlemen Jack is one of the best values out there. But that's a charcoal mellowed Tennessee whiskey.
I would go for a bottle of Bulleit Bourbon. Their rye is my go to rye. What is your target price?
It's a while since I've sampled a bourbon, but for cost effectiveness drinking neat, or on the rocks, you will have a job to beat Johnny-Reb. And as a mixer, extremely rare in these parts, Jim Beam Rye.
Meanwhile, after spending the weekend deep in the archives shredding documents from 1984-1992 with warnings not to destroy until 2021, I have emerged victorious and are enjoying the 3 Star Plantation Rum with lots of ice and diet+caffeine free Coca-Cola:

It's rustic, but far superior to any other white rum on the market that I have sampled.
True!
A Sunday lunchtime pint of Tim Taylor's Pale Ale in The Ship Gidea Park. Beautiful.
/\ don't forget the Wild Turkey .... bourbon persnicketiness aside ... it's good ... had some Jim Beam the other night ... it's good too ... Maker's Mark, good ...
dozens of smaller batch bourbons and I can't keep track of them all but all of the above are good for me, I enjoy the stuff .......

Brown sauce. Gotta have it. I'm polishing off my bottle of St Remy and listening to my The Swing Years 6 record set, as the mercury drops and the skies turn cloudy. I'm on the sofa under a blanket with a fluffy white cat curled up beside me. Stuffed after a lunch of homemade sushi courtesy of the lady.

Hey Heeeepcaaaaaaat!!!!!! Had lots of Genever in Amsterdam, including a terrific meal at De Rozenboom. 5 Tables on ground floor, another 5 on the second floor, and a bathroom 3 flights of stairs up made for midget dutchmen who like daredevil staircase descents. After a few genevers, the climb up was laborious, but the descent terrifying.
Later in the week had plenty of apricot vodka in Armenia. Now at home enjoying Armenian cognac- surprisingly good.
BTW, airport retail whiskey is now all 40% no age statement overhyped crap, and Highland Park (Et tu, Highland park!) is one of the main culprits.
The staircases take some getting use to - impossibly steep and narrow.
I'm glad you enjoyed the Genever and meal, the Dutch are also making excellent premium English-London style gins and once you've sampled the delights of Dutch Courage, Old Tom and Sloane's Gin, you just can't go back to drinking Beefeater, Gordon's or Bombay Sapphire with the same respect.
Johnny Drum Private Stock bourbon.
This is some Damn good stuff, mailed out by a family friend in Kentucky.
