I love Preppy, who's with me...?

My name is Mike and I love preppy.
Hello Mike,
There I said it, out loud, and proud.
Pink and green, whales and Lacoste.
I love it all.
It's how I was raised and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

You love him? He is hephaistion.

Re: I love Preppy, who's with me...?

One thing I will say is that a mature form of the preppy style, so to speak, i.e., the suits, BD collared shirt, and repp tie, seems to command a certain respect and trust in the viewer.  Esp. in certain situations.  Though in others it may damn you.  The "Brooks look" is part of the American consciousness, whatever the state of dress, mores, or what-have-you is in current America.

But then again, maybe not.  I suspect that there are several who make a snap judgment the other way.

Mon dieu, I'm starting to sound like the Image Consultant guy....

Re: I love Preppy, who's with me...?

Taking the OPH as a whole it certainly gives you a broad canvas to play with.
More so than what was once called 'Ivy League Style' and that other classic American look 'WASP' style - In fact both those styles come together in 'Preppy'. Ivy gives the suits, WASP the GTH elements & resortwear.
I still can't see a difference between Preppy & Trad - Maybe the difference is purely in attitude: Preppy is youthful & fun while Trad looks to a more mature demographic? Then again. the OPH did cover the 'Country Club years' too...

What are your favourite Preppy elements, Mike?
I love polo shirts (when in season).
To collar pop or not to pop? That is the question.

Re: I love Preppy, who's with me...?

Have to say that 'Preppy' only featured in the UK as a girl's fashion mag. thing.
It came & went without bothering the rest of us too much.
I do see that it was a big deal in the US, however.
And judging by the 'Trad' forum it still means a lot to a lot of people too.

Where's the harm in 'Preppy'? At least it is what it is.
